Hi there, and welcome to the #ELTchat website. This is the central resource for all things relating to the #ELTchat discussion sessions on Twitter. Here you’ll find the chance to vote on topics for discussion, check out the archives of previous chat sessions, and read articles by guest bloggers on important themes in the ELT world.
The #ELTchat sessions will be on Wednesdays at 12:00 pm London time, at 21:00 pm London time and will last for one hour.
Every Saturday we put out a request to our followers on Twitter with a link to a post on this blog.
Anyone is welcome to add a topic in a comment below the post. See an example here.
If you want to propose a question, then wait for the call for topics on Twitter and add your suggestion as a comment. We welcome all topics for discussion as long as they
The #ELTchat moderators reserve the right not to post comments or to include them in the poll if they do not follow the above guidelines.
The moderators then choose topics/edit/rewrite to create a poll such as this http://twtpoll.com/osomvg
On Monday we usually post the poll on TwitPoll and embedded here on the same post where you can vote for the topic that appeals to you most.
We rotate the top choice each week so that one week the early session gets the first choice and the next week the later session will get the top choice. That way people in the different time zones will be treated as equally as possible.
Every Wednesday we chat twice at 12:00 p.m. GMT and at 21:00 p.m. GMT
You can join one or both #ELTchats depending on your work schedule and time zone!
From time to time we want to invite a guest Tweeter to host a discussion or a Q&A on a subject of their choosing. More on this in a future post.
But #ELTchat doesn’t begin and end with the discussions – the hashtag is there for anyone who has news and views on the ELT world whenever the need arises. Simply add it to your tweets and everyone can benefit from your contribution.

When a visitor lands on this page, it’s really not immediately apparent (1) where to vote on the next topic, or (2) what the current topic is going to be. Could you put links into the paragraph that only tells us (but doesn’t show us i.e. doesn’t link us) to the relevant areas? The sidebar links are really dense and difficult to grok. I have difficulty knowing how to recommend ELT Chat to my network without having to post 4 different links to different areas of the site.
